This is how the police will reduce the queue at Svinesund

– This is of course not sustainable for the transport of goods, people who are going to work, have been at work or have been on another necessary journey. In collaboration with Halden Municipality, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the customs service, we are now implementing several changes that will reduce the purchase load. Several measures are also being considered, says Chief of Staff Jan Eivind Myklatun in the Eastern Police District.

This is what the police do:

* From Thursday 17/6, commuters living in Sweden can use the old Svinesund bridge, together with socially critical personnel in health and care.

* On Thursday, the police created a new waiting area after the border check (at the test station) for those who are going on to quarantine hotels.

* From Monday 21 June, the police will receive assistance from the Home Guard for tasks related to the border mission at the national border.

* On Friday, the signage on the E6 (Norwegian side) towards the border control was changed to separate incoming traffic into two queues. The left lane goes to the green zone (ordinary travelers), while the right lane goes to the red zone (goods transport).

* The Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s information boards on the southbound E6 through Follo and Østfold inform that travelers must remember to register before returning to Norway.

Myklatun emphasizes that there will still be queues, and that the measures will first and foremost help those who are on necessary journeys.

– The police will continue to control the entry of all travelers. The regulations are extensive and complicated, and the individual control can take time, especially if the traveler lacks the necessary documentation, he says.
