This is how the new call center of the Mexican Consulate works that replaces Mexitel – NBC New York (47)

After a barrage of complaints from the Mexican diaspora to schedule appointments through the Mexitel call center, the Mexican Consulate network modernized its system in order to reduce waiting times and call tree bureaucracy.

Mexitel disappeared on March 1 to make way for MiConsulado. It is not only a name change, but also phone numbers and the internet portal.

Under the new system, Mexicans abroad can schedule appointments in two ways:

  • Calling MiConsulado at 1 (424) 309 0009
  • Through the website sre.gob.mxhowever, you will need to create an account.

The system will only allow you to carry out three types of procedures:

You can call Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 9 pm and from 9 am to 6 pm on Sundays and holidays. The new website citas.sre.gob.mx is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year throughout the world.

The new appointment service has more than 400 operators, which will help reduce waiting times by handling up to 35,000 calls daily. In addition, new technology for call processing was implemented.

The priority focus for women, older adults, and/or LGBTQ people remains in place.

As of March 1, 2022, the Mexitel phones 1-877-639-4835 (1-877-Mexitel) and 01-800-639-4835 (01-800-Mexitel), as well as the page mexitel.sre. gob.mx, are no longer available.

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT ONLINE

Once you have created an account, the system will give you the option to schedule an appointment. To do this you must have your CURP, birth certificate or naturalization letter and a valid identification at hand.

The system will ask you for this information:

  2. country and state
  3. You will need to select the default office
  4. Country of birth and nationality
  5. Full name
