The media presence is huge. The number of reporters, photographers and cameramen exceeds the number of pupils willing to vaccinate who have gathered in the auditorium of the Dieburger Landrat-Gruber-Schule (LGS). There are around 20 who start the first school vaccination in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district (LaDaDi) – a pilot project that is to be transferred to other schools.
It was not entirely by chance that the LGS and the adjoining Alfred Delp Upper School were chosen, because the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) specifies the minimum age of 17 years. Quite a few of those who want to be vaccinated are even 18 years old, and thus decide for themselves about their vaccination.
Like Julian Schwaw. He is of legal age, a student at LGS, in the gardening and landscaping department of the vocational schools, comes from the Offenbach district and willingly describes his motives for exposing himself to the protective spade to the press: »I have quite a lot of customer contacts professionally, and that’s why it seems it makes sense for me to protect myself and others. In addition, my parents are already vaccinated and both of them tolerated it well. That’s why I’m taking the opportunity that the Darmstadt-Dieburg district has now opened up to us through the schools. “
Routiniertes Impfteam
Like everyone else, he will be able to enjoy the introductory lecture by Ulrich Pijok, who introduces himself as a reactivated doctor and vaccinator and who portrays the young people’s decision as a “little spade” with a great effect on epidemic hygiene. He speaks about possible side effects, most of which are harmless, and praises the Comirnaty vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer as a highly pure, even vegan substance, because it does not contain a milligram of animal protein. And nobody should be surprised if they don’t feel any side effects, because the vaccination works anyway.
The mobile vaccination team from the LaDaDi vaccination center in Reinheim is in action, and it is very calm and now has a lot of routine. Not Pijok, but Dagmar Hoffmann pokes Julian Schwaw, while the vaccination doctor gives further explanations about the procedure. The bystanders learn that the spades are not carried out with momentum, but that the needle penetrates the tissue rather “gently”. With Schwaw, it is the left upper arm after it has been identified as right-handed. Some of the vaccinees, however, also look for the side with more muscle mass.
More vaccinations during the holidays
Further vaccinations at other schools should take place during the summer holidays, even if some students will probably not be able to come then. “The results of this day will help us to tailor our vaccination offers optimally in the future as well,” says Jens Dony from the head of the district administrative staff. »Our list of successors is already available to young people aged 17 and over and adults. You can currently get an appointment offer within a few days. “
Julian Schwaw and the others now have a second vaccination for complete immunization. Optionally in three or five weeks, and then not at the school, but at the vaccination center in Reinheim.
