The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers will meet this week in the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series. The former rivals will meet in the Fall Classic for the first time in 43 years.
The Dodgers are seeking their eighth World Series title and second in five years. The Yankees are seeking their 28th title, but their first since 2009.
The two teams have met in 11 World Series, more than any other pairing. When the Dodgers played in Brooklyn, the Yankees held a commanding 6-1 lead in World Series matchups. Since the Dodgers moved to Dodger Stadium in the late 1950s, the teams are tied at two wins apiece. .
The two franchises have won a combined 34 World Series titles, most recently in 2020, when Dave Roberts’ team won at home during the pandemic.
But the two teams haven’t met since 1981. That last meeting ended with the Dodgers winning their fifth title and Fernando Valenzuela shining in Game 3.
The Dodgers defeated the New York Mets on Sunday night in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, while the Yankees won the American League in a 4-1 series victory against the Cleveland Guardians.
