Swiss-Ski threw him out of the squad: Reto Schmidiger’s difficult solo effort
Ski racer Reto Schmidiger has not been part of a Swiss-Ski squad since this season. Now the Nidwaldner competes far away from the limelight in order to recommend himself again for the World Cup. This is also the case on Wednesday and Thursday at the FIS races in Engelberg.
The backdrop has changed. While former companions of Reto Schmidiger recently presented themselves at the World Cup in Adelboden, he contested a parallel race in Howelsen Hill, US state of Colorado. The World Pro Ski Tour took place. “It was a big thing in the States in the 70s and 80s,” says Schmidiger. More than 8,000 kilometers separated him from the center of international skiing, the Chuenisbärgli, on this January weekend.
