Nominated for an Oscar in a total of eight categories Barbie-film was without a doubt the biggest movie hit of last year. According to the industry, it won Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (America Ferrera), Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Design, and Best Original Score(s) (I’m Just Ken and What Was I Made For?) related notations. However, according to fans and Ryan Gosling, two important names were left off the list.
After the announcement of the Oscar nominees, social media was practically flooded with posts and comments saying that they don’t understand why Margot Robbie didn’t get a nomination in the best actress category, and why Greta Gerwig wasn’t mentioned among the best directors. And now Ryan Gosling also expressed his opinion about it.
“I am extremely honored that my colleagues nominated me alongside such remarkable artists in a year that saw so many great films. And I never thought I’d say this, but I’m incredibly proud to have played a plastic doll named Ken.” – writes the star of the Barbie movie in his statement.
But there is no Ken without Barbie, and no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie. Without the two people who did the most for this history-making, globally celebrated film.
Not just a sexy doll, but a real, thinking woman – why is the live-action Barbie movie groundbreaking?
“Without their talent, determination and genius, no one could have been credited for the film. To say I’m disappointed they weren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.” – he wrote, and then added that although he is very happy that the film received several nominations, he thinks that the work of Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig should also be recognized.
