This is how President Stubb’s visit was noted in Sweden – 2024-04-23 14:33:04

The Finnish president’s first state visit did not seem to take up too much column space in the Swedish media.

The front pages of the Finnish media have been full of news today about President Alexander Stubb’s first state visit to Sweden. The news has covered everything from Stubb’s wife Suzanne Innes-Stubb’s attention-grabbing outfit to Stubb’s speech in which the president emphasized the threat from the east.

So what is the Swedish media talking about? At least not from Stubb’s visit.

The headlines on the front pages of the Swedish tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen include, among other things, the cold weather brought by low pressure and the news that the chocolate giant Cloetta is recalling an 850-ton batch of chocolate.

The front page of Svenska Dagbladet discusses the successor of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, and the pages of the Swedish public broadcasting company SVT talk about the floods in Dubai last week.

Stubb’s visit was barely noticed

Although President Stubb’s historic state visit did not reach the front pages in Sweden, it was also noticed in the western neighbor, at least with a few news items.

SVT already told its Finnish-speaking readers yesterday where there is the best chance to see the Visiting President together with the King of Sweden, Kaarle Kusta.

Svenska Dagbladet wrote a short news about Stubb’s speech in Stockholm. Aftonbladet, on the other hand, drew attention to the fact that Stubb had never felt as Swedish as he does now.

The state visit is perhaps the least reported by Expressen. Iltapäivälehti reported in its short news that the king did indeed welcome Stubbs, but then focused on Queen Silvia’s red eye.
