This is how President Stubb commented on arms procurement from Israel – Meet the President – 2024-09-18 13:40:15

President Alexander Stubb holds a press conference in Tampere. Jenni Host

According to President Alexander Stubb, no official decisions have yet been made regarding NATO bases to be placed in Finland.

At the press conference of his visit to Tampere, Stubb commented on information previously reported by Iltalehti, according to which there would be two NATO bases in Finland.

Stubb said that no actual decisions have been made yet. Sweden is taking over the leadership of the NATO FLF forces to be deployed in Northern Finland. Finland sought the same role.

Stubb was asked if we are stationing American soldiers in Finland. Stubb did not give a concrete answer to the matter.

– We are constantly having discussions with our allies about who is ready to join the FLF forces, Stubb said.

The unit that will probably be located in Northern Finland is still under construction.

– It will be different from these other FLV troops, where soldiers have been brought in from elsewhere. We are meant to have such a circulation system that suits us.

– There are more visitors than we can accept, Stubb says.

Understanding for the protesters

Stubb also commented on the incident at the University of Tampere. Stubb’s speech was interrupted as Palestinian protesters shouted from the audience at the president.

The president was understanding towards the act.

– Demonstration is allowed in a democracy. Even desirable. I would have liked the protesters to have stayed longer. I would have told them that I would come to talk to the Israeli president in the evening. I could have asked what kind of greetings I could have sent. This time the greetings were missed, Stubb said.
