Even though the holidays are coming up, stores are still missing that exact spot
A month before Easter – how much will the lamb cost us for the festive table?
The national sheep breeding company assures that a drastic jump in lamb prices is not expected. However, traders still refrain from stocking lamb. For the Easter holidays, there will be deliveries, but in most stores they will be by prior request of the customer.
Although the holidays are approaching, lamb is still missing from stores, bTV informs.
“We will see if there will actually be a demand, and it will be done on request. For now, we can’t say anything yet,” commented Lyuba Borisova, sales consultant in Veliko Tarnovo:
For consumers, the price factor turns out to be decisive.
“The price increase in the last two years has doubled per kilogram of lamb offal. I buy about a kilo – a kilo and a half of fresh lamb ribs. We will allocate this budget. It turns out that for what I am quoting you, I would have to pay 50 BGN for it,” says Ana Mineva from Veliko Tarnovo.
From the farm of Plamen Penev in Sevlievo, a kilogram of live weight costs BGN 12.
“There are colleagues who feed with straw, without concentrated fodder, where the lamb and its taste qualities are the same. Prices there are usually around BGN 10. There are others who feed with hay, corn – the prices are around BGN 11. In our farm we raise the lambs on more expensive feed. People can rest assured that it’s a sucker till the end, because the quality of meat from a dairy lamb is different from the quality of a weanling,” he commented.
From the farm, through the slaughterhouse, to the store, the price usually doubles. Despite the difficulties in the industry, the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association assures that there will be no increase in the price of lamb.
“Since last year, there has been an instrument with state support in connection with precisely these rising costs, which last year was in the amount of BGN 420 million. And by working this year, I think that this support will quell the sharp increase in Lamb meat,” says Simeon Karakolev, chairman of NOKA in Veliko Tarnovo.
In the shops, traders are already recording a kilo of clean meat at a price of 24-25 BGN.
