Under tightened Corona rules Several carolers moved from house to house in the north of Usedom on Saturday to bring the caroling blessing to the doors of the building and to collect money for charitable purposes. Like community educator Cord Bollenbach explains, there are some peculiarities due to Corona. “We don’t come into the house, we just stand in front of it,” he says. In addition, the donations are handed over in a large cloth sack on a long pole. The houses were only visited upon prior notification – there were a total of 37 house calls.
The participants collected 875 euros for the Kindermissionswerk in the Ukraine. “There are children there whose parents work abroad, who live with their grandparents, or even lonely children. With this money they should be supported ”, so Bollenbach. The carolers were in Zinnowitz, on the Gnitz, in Trassenheide, Mölschow and Karlshagen on road. Among them were two children from the Catholic Church. Public buildings visited by the carol singers were the spa administration, the Kranich house, the Sorgenfrei house and the Edeka market.
Many parishes refrained from singing carolers this year due to the corona restrictions. In the Wolgast church, those responsible have considered an alternative. They sent letters with the blessing sticker, a flyer, and included a remittance slip.
