For over 42 years, Martine Tanghe was a journalist and news anchor for the public broadcaster. She is probably one of the best known news presenters in Flanders. An event on Facebook also confirms this because 51,000 people responded to the call to watch Tanghe together for the last time tonight.
Martine Tanghe was also the regular face of the VRT election programs. And she also presented the award-winning consumer program Volt. For many she was an example and ambassador of beautiful and clear Dutch. For years she read the Great Dictation of the Dutch Language. She was also a figurehead of Come on against cancer.

But now Martine Tanghe is retiring and her long career at the VRT News Service comes to an end. To celebrate the farewell to the news anchor and to put her in the spotlight, colleagues provided an extra Martine news after the 7 pm news. In it, Wim De Vilder looked back with reports and testimonials on her career at the public broadcaster.

It also showed how Martine was received by the king on her retirement and how former European president Herman Van Rompaey dedicated a haiku to her. There was also a small surprise, because Martine was awarded the Grote Prijs Jan Wauters, the annual prize for excellence in the Dutch language.
To give viewers the opportunity to say goodbye in a personal way, the VRT offers a special page on vrt.be: “Thank you Martine!”. There anyone who wants to congratulate can post a word of thanks or appreciation, an anecdote or another goodbye message.
