For those who don’t remember: Lady Gaga wore this controversial gem at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010. The idea came not from her mastermind, but from her make-up artist Val Garland. “She and I had been working together for a long time and she talked about the time she was in a sausage suit went to a party. I thought that was really funny so I said, ‘Well, that’s a great way to make sure everyone leaves you alone at a party,'” the singer told the British Vogue.

In the same interview, Lady Gaga also opens a book about how exactly that dress was designed. “There’s a corset underneath, but the corset was sewn to the flesh, so this is basically a piece of clothing,” she explains. “It’s not like they just draped flesh over me and crossed their fingers in hopes of blessing.”
