This is how Ile Uusivuori teaches children to save – 2024-08-17 13:57:01

Host Ile Uusivuori tells Iltalehte that he noticed a difference between his generation and today’s youth’s use of money.

Ikka “Ile” Uusivuori44, has worked Masked Singer Suomi – as the host of the program for all six seasons. He admits to Iltalehte at the program’s press conference that he always thinks before filming whether the format will surprise the host anymore. However, every time the program has surprised.

– When you think you know everything, suddenly something happens that pulls the rug from under your feet. That’s why I’ve been able to do this for such a long time: it’s never the same, says the host.

After the last season, viewers gave criticism, among other things, that some of the characters’ hints were too misleading. Uusivuori reminds that hints are often questions of interpretation.

– Yes, some of the hints are misleading. We might use a saying about something that’s a little over there. Not to mislead, but it’s a matter of interpretation. However, there is no lying there, but hints are given that can be understood in many different ways.

In addition to the busy work life, Uusivuori has also had time to vacation in the summer. Uusivuuori and his host wife Marja Hintika45, is on their first holiday together in three years. The holiday has been spent, among other things, with Coldplay and Metallica concerts and observing lynxes with the game camera of the cabin neighbor.

The couple has children born in 2013, 2015 and 2017, who, according to Uusivuuori, have been heavily involved in the holiday. However, a one-on-one time is possibly being arranged.

– I’ll have to see if I can arrange some one-on-one time in the fall. Of course, it depends on childcare options. But I still haven’t found a place where we can stay for a couple of days. Last time we were in Palmas Mallorca, and now we should come up with something similar, says the host.

Rising prices

Prices have risen wildly this year. For example, the price of a Linnanmäki bracelet rose to 51 euros, which means the price went up by four euros from last year. Uusivuori says that the rise in prices has sometimes made them think about where they will spend their summer.

– If we go somewhere as a family of five, we make sure we don’t go to Linnanmäki or Särkänniemi many times, he says.

The presenter says that they spent a lot of time in the summer, for example, at flea markets. Uusivuori has found that it is also a good way to teach children about money management.

– Through it, you can think about what to buy and from where, even if you are not always tight on money. Uusivuori explains that you might get one product from a store, but you might get 20 of them from a flea market.

– That is, to understand how much something costs, and whether it is worth buying here or there. After all, you have to teach yourself whether something is worth buying [uutena] or buy used. In this time it is also good to think about it, he continues.

At the same time, Uusivuori has made an observation about the differences in the use of money between his generation and today’s youth.

– I myself have lived in the era when there was a depression, and you wanted all the toys and others terribly. The new generation, on the other hand, wants more experiences, such as concerts and hockey matches, instead of buying things, says the host.

– It probably has to do with wanting to think about consumption and what makes sense, he analysed.

Uusivuori has also noticed that “the world is made for families of four”. According to the presenter’s experience, for example, on Lapland trips, their family of five should take two cabins on night trains, because they are often designed for four people.

Uusivuori also admits that due to the rise in prices, he also makes different decisions when, for example, grocery shopping.

– Our children do a lot of sports, and the amount of food is absolutely incredible. We don’t really put tenderloin every day, says the presenter.

– We have also done a lot of fishing at the cabin and taught through that that if the fish is the right size, it is used to make food. In other words, we teach that you don’t fish in vain, but that all the fish caught goes to use. Or they are returned to the water, he adds at the end.
