This is how fast Elon Musk’s satellite internet is in its first tests

A few weeks ago we shared with you the first data on the closed beta of satellite internet service by Elon Musk offered through his company Starlink, which has already delivered some antennas to its users with a flying saucer shape that undoubtedly attracted a lot of attention from Internet users.

Starlink prohibits users from sharing data about the service, however, the first speed tests of the service have already been leaked through the famous Ookla application known as Speedtest.

Still far from the finish line, but with good speed results

Elon Musk mentioned that his mission is to provide a service that reaches a speed of up to 1 Gbps, However, for that to happen, most of the satellites will have to deploy, so there is still some time for that to happen, but the more satellites in orbit the better the speed of service.

In the Speedtest tests uploaded to Reddit, we can see that the download speed ranges between 35.49 Mbps and 60.24 Mbps, while the most recurrent speed is in the range of 40 and 45 Mbps. This speed is quite good for the Internet satellite, although it is clear that there is still a lot of work to be done so that they can offer the promised speed to users.

Regarding the upload, the speed also ranges between 4.58 Mbps and 17.70 Mbps, which is not a bad thing either, in fact, these are the speeds of 4G networks that we can obtain in many parts of the country with different operators.

Ping is an issue that needs a solution

As we mentioned, Elon Musk and the Starlink engineers still have a lot of work to do, since latency is another of the things that they have promised to improve to obtain a speed of 10 milliseconds, which is actually an interesting figure for satellite Internet. .

In the tests we can see results that show a latency of up to 94 ms, a speed that could significantly affect the user experience, especially when playing online.

These tests have been carried out in the cities of Los Angeles and Seattle, but none of this has been confirmed by Starlink, so for now it only remains as a leak.

It is expected that throughout the year the Starlink beta will reach more places in North America, and it is even probable that Mexico will participate in this beta sometime in 2020 or 2021, but there is nothing official from the company of Elon Musk.
