Carmella is in a relatively good time. On the one hand, he has just qualified for the fight for the money briefcase in the Money in the Bank bank with all that this implies. On the other hand, it comes from losing twice in a row to Liv Morgan on SmackDown. What happens in the next few weeks will determine whether the balance tips to one side or the other.. Let us remember that it would not be the first time that he got hold of the briefcase and charged it to be crowned SmackDown Champion.
► WWE had no plans for Carmella
But certainly “The Princess of Staten Island” has descended many steps in recent years since she was queen of the blue brand or was building towards that stage of her career. Even later times weren’t too bad for her. But there was a moment when they stopped pushing her. Rather, where the plans for her ended. Let us remember that between May and December 2020 he had no fighting action as well as between January and April 2021.
Looking back on those times during a recent interview with Out of Character, Carmella reveals how she dealt with WWE’s lack of plans.
“I was sitting at home for no real reason. It was simply: ‘We have nothing for you right now. Stay home until we have a good story. ‘. Then they said they wanted to give my character a ‘new coat of paint’ and at first I said, ‘I love my character and I don’t want to change him. So I thought it was good to change and show some growth.
“If I was going to have a new character, I wanted something that resonates and something that feels. I made vignettes at home. I hired people, made the vignettes and sent them to WWE. They said, ‘This is great, we love it, this is what we’re going to do.’ I thought about keeping the ‘Princess of Staten Island’ and, for lack of a better term, making her Queen. I know I’m not the queen, Charlotte is the queen, don’t get me wrong.
“But Carmella has grown a bit, let’s accept that. That is what we did. The videos I made were very different from the cartoons that ended up appearing, but things always end up changing. It’s okay. Just take it and do what you want with it and make the most of it. I just knew that I wanted to go back and make a statement. Fortunately, that’s what I did.
“I had an idea for a new entry and it had to be different. I loved my old entrance song, so at first, it felt strange not to be excited and to walk on the moon and all that. I wanted to do something different, so I took an old video of a Madonna concert. Love it. I’ve been doing the same character for seven years, but it’s still a part of me and a part of Carmella. Sometimes you have to grow a little.
