Waldermar Anton (28), who recently moved from VfB Stuttgart to BVB, spoke at Dortmund’s training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, about his impressions so far at his new club and the negative reactions of his former fans in Stuttgart.

Anton was delighted with the reception in Dortmund and particularly highlighted the high level of public attention that the club enjoys. “There isn’t much new at the moment,” but of course everything is “on a higher level,” explained Anton, stressing that it is fun to get in touch with the fans and feel their enthusiasm.

Despite the successful season with VfB, the trust of those in charge at BVB made the decision easier for him. “I listened to my gut feeling and am very happy to be here in the end.”
Anton particularly emphasized the harmonious cooperation within the team and the positive first discussions with head coach Nuri Sahin.
“We talked a lot about tactics, what we can change and do better. Everyone in the team welcomed me very warmly,” said Anton, adding that the competition with other top defenders such as Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle further spurred him on to perform at his best.
“I personally do not accept that”
A big topic in the interview was the reaction of the Stuttgart fans to Anton’s move. Anton was disappointed by some of the negative comments that he and his family had to read after the move.

“It was a real shame. I had incredible years at VfB, was there for four years and gave everything for the club,” said Anton. It was particularly difficult for his family to process the harsh words.

However, he stressed that the negative reactions were less of a personal problem than a social one. “People write things on the Internet that they wouldn’t say in public or face to face. I personally don’t accept that, but that’s the way it is at the moment.”
Despite recent experiences, Anton looks back on his time in Stuttgart positively. “We made history with VfB last season and I take all of that with me,” he said proudly.
“We have a top team”
In Dortmund, Anton sees his role not only on the pitch, but also as a leader within the team. He stressed that he will not change his approach and will continue to clearly express his opinion when necessary.
“I’m not the type of person who hides, even though I’m new. We have a top team, everyone listens and listens,” explained Anton.

Anton, meanwhile, finds the current training camp in Switzerland very positive. “It’s an incredibly beautiful hotel and a great time here. It’s something very special for the fans to see us here,” said the newcomer, stressing the importance of the exchange with the fans.
