This is how bizarre a profit Ferrari makes per car sold | Car

Most automakers made more profit last year, despite selling fewer cars. Ferrari is still the cash cow of the auto industry, followed by Tesla.

Last year the Italian sports car brand made about 94,500 euros profit per car. Tesla is in second place with more than 6100 euros profit per car sold. This is apparent from an analysis by an employee of the trade association Jet† The American website Engine1 published the figures.

Ferrari thus has a profit margin of 25.5 percent. In 2020 this was still 21.4 percent. In 2018 Ferrari earned ‘only’ 69,000 euros per car sold. In that year, Tesla even made a loss of 11,000 euros per car sold.

More profit despite shortages

Not only Ferrari and Tesla did well. The report shows that the 19 largest car manufacturers in the world all made more money on average per car sold last year. Profits fell from EUR 1,168 per car sold in 2019 to EUR 811 in 2020, to increase last year to no less than EUR 1,903 per car sold.

This is striking, especially given the pandemic and chip shortages that hit the automotive sector. According to experts, manufacturers mainly focused on the production of the most profitable models such as SUVs and electric vehicles. They also reduced discounts and increased prices.
