This is how Afghanistan has changed the Norwegian defense

NEWS ANALYSIS: In 2001, Norway had a large and old-fashioned defense with little emergency capacity. Now the situation is turned upside down.

The Armed Forces’ top management on their way to receive soldiers and health personnel from Afghanistan at Gardermoen military airport on Monday 30 August. One word summed up the message from the top officers to those on board: Pride in a successful, dramatic mission.

On Monday 30 August, Norwegian special forces and hospital personnel from Afghanistan landed at Gardermoen military airport. When they were evacuated from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, grenades were fired at the airport.

The plane that picked them up was a Norwegian Hercules transport plane. This ensured that they returned home to Norway faster than if American forces had transported them out.
