– The terrorist attack in Oslo has shaken us. It hurts to know that even more people are now feeling the same feelings that result from being left behind or surviving a terrorist attack. The terrorist attacks remind us that we must never stop fighting against outsiders, hate speech, conspiracy theories and extremism, says Lisbeth Røyneland to NTB.

She is the leader of the national support group after 22 July.

Name reading and wreaths at Høyblokka

Every year, 22 July is marked, among other things, in the government quarter and on Utøya. This year’s commemoration starts at 9.30 at the memorial site outside Høyblokka in the government quarter.

Although the construction of the new government quarter is in full swing, it is still blocked by a small area around the national memorial at Høyblokka. There will also be a ceremony with the reading of names and the laying of wreaths.

Lisbeth Røyneland gives the first speech of the day. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and AUF leader Astrid Hoem will also each give a speech.

Oslo Cathedral will also hold a commemoration, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. The church will be open throughout the period, and there will be lights and music. In the church, priests and deacons are present throughout the day.

Utøya is located in Tyrifjorden in Hole municipality. In the foreground is the boat Thorbjørn, which transports people and goods to and from the island. 22 July marks eleven years since the terrorist attack in which 69 people were killed on the island.

New memorial site on Utøya

In mid-June, the national memorial site opened at Utøykaia. The memorial consists of 77 bronze columns – one for each of the 77 people who were killed in the government quarter and on Utøya during the terrorist attack in 2011.

At 4 p.m., the commemoration starts on Utøya. AUF leader Astrid Hoem will speak, as will Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. At 16.45 a minute’s silence will be held before the Prime Minister, the support group, AUF and the Labor Party will lay wreaths. Similar to the commemoration at Høyblokka, there will also be a reading of names.

On 14 July, the exhibition “Scar” opened at the 22 July Center in Oslo, where, among other things, photos of the terror scenes in the years after the attack are part of the exhibition. Continuing the conversation, reflecting and asking new questions around 22 July are central themes for the exhibition, which runs until February 2023.
