Valdemoro
Héctor Ávila Manjón is a normal 18-year-old boy who lives in Valdemoro, who studies, who goes out with his friends, who enjoys sport… But since last weekend, Héctor is also a world champion. Last Sunday he won the gold medal in the junior category at the 42nd World Trap Championship. After breaking all the targets in the last round of shooting, Héctor achieved what he admits was an “unexpected success”.

At Hoy por Hoy Madrid Sur we spoke with him to find out what his daily life is like. He admits that this year he has had to combine the Pinto Shooting Club, to which he belongs, with his second year of high school studies. That is why he has trained less. That is why, even with the good results of recent years, he did not have sweeping the World Championships among his priorities. And perhaps that is also why he achieved an almost immaculate performance (he missed only 8 of the 200 targets) that has made him world champion.
Hector, who obtained his licence at the age of 14, exudes absolute concentration when he competes, but a naturalness appropriate to his age when he tells us that yes, he is thinking about the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, about moving up to senior level in three years, about winning more medals. But, above all, about continuing to enjoy a minority sport that once again proudly displays the flag of the Community of Madrid.
