These are no longer propositions or announcements, but specific solutions! The Council of Ministers has just adopted the bill and referred it to the Sejm: anyone who submits a declaration of a difficult financial situation and the need to purchase a new TV or set-top box to be able to continue receiving the terrestrial TV signal, will receive an additional fee – PLN 250 or PLN 100, respectively. The Act also regulates in detail the method of submitting applications and accounting for the subsidy granted. Get the details!
The Council of Ministers adopted a draft act amending the act on supporting households in bearing costs related to changing the standard of broadcasting digital terrestrial television, submitted by the Secretary of State at the Chancellery of Prime Minister Janusz Cieszyński.

In Poland, as in other European Union countries, the method of broadcasting digital terrestrial television is changing. It is about replacing the current DVB-T / MPEG-4 system with a more effective DVB-T2 / HEVC. A government act has already been adopted on this matter, which provides for subsidizing the poorest people for the purchase of a set-top box for a television or television set, which will enable the reception of free digital terrestrial television in a new standard. Currently, the government wants to clarify the regulations and establish two types of funding: PLN 250 for a TV set and PLN 100 for a set-top box.

In Poland, about 30% of households (about 4.44 million) receive TV only in terrestrial manner. Research conducted by the National Media Institute shows that 1.8 million households are not adapted to receive digital terrestrial television. Changing the system to DVB-T2 / HEVC will require them to replace the TV set with a newer, standard-adapted model or retrofitting the currently used receiver with a digital terrestrial TV decoder.

A differentiation of the amount of co-financing will be introduced depending on whether the eligible person applies for aid consisting in the purchase of a TV set or a set-top box.
