In addition to Bild and Insider, who are already active on Snapchat, the new partnership will also see the editorial offices of Welt in Germany, Politico in the US and Upday in Germany, Spain and Italy produce shows for Discover. Bild in Germany and Insider in the US will also contribute entertainment and lifestyle content to Spotlight.
Another key element of the partnership is an augmented reality collaboration with FreeTech – Axel Springer Academy of Journalism and Technology. With the support of Snap, FreeTech aims to teach the fundamentals of AR and prepare the next generation of reporters to work with augmented Experimenting with reality storytelling on Snapchat.
The two companies are also launching their first joint journalist development program with the goal of creating even more compelling news content on Snapchat. The Axel Springer editorial offices select young reporters for this. Experienced editors from Springer are working with Snap to equip this group of journalists with the skills they need to create news content using the Snap camera while also showing their personality. The reporters will share their content directly in their personal stories and on Snapchat. Their editorial affiliations will also be visible on their creator profiles.
