Formula 1 has a new Aussie: Jack Doohan will swap his reserve role for a full-fledged racing seat with the BWT Alpine F1 Team in 2025.
Jack how?
Who is Jack Doohan, you ask? He is the son of Mick Doohan, a five-time 500cc motorcycle racing world champion. But Jack has made his own mark on four wheels, and quite a bit of it. He is the first member of the Alpine Academy, which will be given a permanent race seat. After a successful career as a junior in international single-seater classes, he has been a reserve driver for the Alpine team for the past two years.
Highlight
In Formula 2 he excelled, with a particular highlight during the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he left everyone behind and won everything – from pole position to the fastest lap. Now it’s time for the real deal. He will race alongside the now experienced Pierre Gasly. Jack can’t wait to finally put on his gloves: “The step up to a full-time race seat in 2025 is a dream come true. The trust of the team means a lot to me and I am ready to work hard and give it my all. This is a special moment for my family and me and I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported me.”
Team principal Oliver Oakes is also delighted with this fresh addition: “We are delighted that Jack will now have the opportunity to showcase his talent in Formula 1. He brings the perfect mix of youthful enthusiasm and experience and we look forward to working with him and Pierre to take the team to new heights.”
