Why did the price of Xiaomi cellphones go up?
Carrying the jargon of “presenting the best products at real prices”, Xiaomi boasts that it only takes 5 percent of its product sales margin. That way, the price of Xiaomi cellphones sold to consumers can remain affordable.
However, it seems that Xiaomi is stuck in the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the chipset crisis. A number of predictions say the chipset shortage crisis will begin to recover in the second half of 2022 and return to normal in 2023.

The smartphone market is predicted to change next year, where cellphone prices are getting more expensive and choices are increasingly limited. This is the impact of the crisis of shortage of chipsets, declining smartphone sales, and inflation.
One of the major chipset manufacturers, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), which has large clients such as Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, has announced plans to increase the price of its chipsets. The scarcity of chipsets is also said to make low-priced smartphones even rarer.
According to research firm Coinerpoint Research, the scarcity of chipsets will make vendors prioritize smartphones with high selling prices over entry-level and mid-range phones. Because, high-priced smartphones allow vendors to pursue production costs rather than “cheap” smartphones with smaller profits.
