This is a delicious way to reduce high blood pressure

JAKARTA – Health experts always recommend that you adopt a diet high in fiber and low in fat and sugar that can help reduce the risk of various diseases including high blood pressure or hypertension.

If you add to the flavanols typically found in berries, apples, nuts, tea, chocolate and other foods, you may be able to help your blood pressure drop, according to a study in the journal. Scientific Reports, as reported by Medical Daily, Friday.

To arrive at these findings, researchers at the University of Reading studied the diets of more than 25,000 people in Norfolk, England. They compared the food the participants consumed with its effect on their blood pressure. The researchers found that there were differences in blood pressure 2-4 mmHg, in those with the lowest and highest intake of flavanols.

A similar condition is also found in people on a Mediterranean diet. One paper in Sports Medicine revealed that cocoa flavanols helped regulate blood pressure in participants who were obese during exercise. Researchers agree that cocoa flavanols can help with blood pressure and exercise-induced stress.

Remember to consult your doctor first before changing your diet drastically, as adding or removing certain types of food can affect your overall health. Fruits are one of the main sources of flavanols, so health experts recommend it.

Those with type 2 diabetes may eat fruit to help regulate blood pressure. On the other hand, a high fruit intake is unlikely to cause side effects. But mixing it with other foods can be problematic. The recommendation is that about 20 servings of fruit per day or 200 grams of fructose a day should not cause any side effects.
