KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. In the next two and a half months, President-elect of the United States (US) Joe Biden will form a cabinet that will help him in the future. Biden’s homework is a lot, starting to tackle the pandemic, recovering the economy, and winning the hearts of members of the Republican-dominated US Senate while unifying the unruly coalition of Democrats.
Reporting from Politico, Saturday (7/11), a tough task that cannot be completed in a short time. Nonetheless, Biden’s transition team has been selecting potential cabinet candidates for months, as well as providing potential options to Biden in the coming days.
Biden’s first tough task was to determine the candidate for finance minister. This is because Biden must appoint a financial team early for the preparation of an economic stimulus program and assistance for victims of Covid-19 in the United States (US).

Not to mention, the possibility of Republican control over the US Senate, this will be a big fight and consume more political capital.
Several finance minister candidates have emerged. One of the most-mentioned potential members of Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard. He is considered a figure who doesn’t disappoint anyone too much. He was in the Federal Reserve during the current crisis and worked for the Treasury Department during the Barack Obama administration.
If elected, Lael Brainard will make history as the first woman to head the US Treasury Department.
