This industry desperately seeks personnel but cannot find them

The universe of SMEs is made up of thousands of highly specialized family businesses that live and work on orders. They carry out a whole series of processes on behalf of third parties, on which they have acquired, over time, a strong competitive advantage.

What does it mean? They get certain artifacts at very short prices and times and boast excellent in their productions know-how specialist and sector.

The mechanical industry (metalworkers, precision mechanics, etc.) is one of these, for example. A flagship of Made in Italy that silently produces a good slice of Italian GDP.

Now, it may well be an Italian excellence but this industry is desperately looking for personnel but cannot find them, thus suffering on the front of investments in human resources.

What does this industry produce?

As mentioned, it is a transversal economic sector, in the sense that its output is used in various other industries. For example, machines are obtained that can be used to produce any type of mold, whether it is sheet metal, aluminum, steel, plastic or rubber.

In other realities, however, it may happen to produce molded parts, or folded parts, or springs, or small mechanical products already assembled. The bulk of the production, but not all, has the automotive industry as its final customer.

They are then exported all over the world, especially in the most advanced economies that are looking for very high performance machinery.

They are desperately looking for staff

Now, these machines, and therefore the companies that produce them, need specialized personnel. But they come up against the great difficulty of finding young people who want to get involved.

On the market they are looking for mechanical experts, electronic experts, engineers, software programmers. And on the market they go in search of new talents to be trained in the company.

The staff, needless to say, is the primary resource par excellence of these SMEs. It turns out to be, literally, a human capital, on which to a large extent they depend.

The strong gaps in the school world

School mismatching is an often addressed issue. Basically, many young people are trained in disciplines that are not in demand by the market. Vocational schools still produce too few young people.

The Scientific Technical Institutes send out on average about eight thousand boys a year throughout Italy. Ridiculous numbers compared to competing countries: in France about 130,000 are produced per year and in Germany 300,000.

Earnings

On the payroll front, it all depends on length of service and above all on field skills. However, it starts from 1,200, 1,300 net per month. Then, after a few years, it also reaches 2,000-3,000 euros, depending on the degree of responsibility in the company.

In short, great satisfactions, in front of which it is difficult to understand the perplexities of young people. Especially those who have been at home for a long time or those looking for short-term jobs or, even worse, jobs absolutely not requested by the market.

There is no lack of career opportunities

In addition to the economic aspects, many of these companies also have branch offices or subsidiaries or affiliates. The result is that, therefore, there is no lack of the opportunity to travel, even for work, even abroad, and at the company’s expense.

Above all, there is the possibility of growing professionally and even in a short time. As a rule, in fact, internal refresher courses are held that adapt the knowledge of the staff.

As new hires, however, there is no lack of support from an experienced worker or an engineer who acts as a personal tutor.

So many advantages that do not always appeal to those without a job. If it is true, as it is, that this industry is desperately looking for personnel, but cannot find them despite all the benefits it offers.
