Masniari’s achievement is even more special because it also makes history. She ended the gold medal drought for the past 11 years, especially women’s swimming at the SEA Games. Finally, Yessy Yosaputra who won gold in the women’s 200 m backstroke at the 2011 SEA Games Palembang.

In addition to the gold medal, the Indonesian swimming team also bagged 4 bronze medals. Four bronze medals from Kania Ratih in the women’s 50m backstroke, Glenn Victor Sutanto (men’s 50m breaststroke), Aflah Fadlan Prawira (400m individual medley), and Ressa Kania Dewi et al who took part in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Strict Competition in the Medal Standings

Meanwhile, Chef de Misson (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent for the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games Ferry J Kono said that the contingent he led continued to compete fiercely. Especially with the Philippines and Thailand.

“Alhamdulillah, we managed to collect 19 gold medals, with the last presentation being given by the Esports branch, which took part in the free fire event, which won one gold and one silver through performances from Indonesia 1 and Indonesia 2. All are still on the track,” said Ferry.

Ferry is optimistic that the Indonesian contingent will continue to soar because in the next few days many leading sports will be competed. Such as canoeing, cycling, and others.

Moreover, of the 499 athletes who were dispatched to the Vietnam SEA Games, all of them have the potential to win a gold medal. “All Indonesian people hope they can show the best results,” said the man who also serves as Secretary General of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).

One of the sports that made a surprise was Golf. Indonesian athlete Amandeus Christian Susanto won a silver medal. “This is an extraordinary history for Indonesian golf,” he said.

Ferry then hopes that young athletes who are still feeling nervous at the beginning of the SEA Games Vietnam can start to be confident and show their true abilities to make Indonesia proud in this Southeast Asian multi-event event.
