TRIBUNNEWS.COM, BALIKPAPAN – The first open heart surgery in the city of Balikpapan was successfully carried out by the medical team of Siloam Hospital Balikpapan.
This operation is performed on a 50 year old man with a case of disease coronary heart.
The type of surgery performed is surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) or more commonly referred to Coronary Heart Bypass Surgery.
The Head of the Operations Team is Dr. Ivan Joalsen Mangaratua, SpBTKV (K) said, in simple terms, the CABG procedure is described as creation of a new line (bypass) around a blocked artery.
“New pathways are needed so that blood flow becomes smooth so that the heart muscle gets enough nutrients and oxygen,” he said in a written statement, Saturday (23/1/2021).
He said, all stages of the operation went smoothly without complications, which lasted for 5 hours.

After the operation was completed, the patient was transferred to the ICCU Room (Intensive Cardiac Care Unit) for observation.
While in the ICCU Room, the recovery phase was quite fast and the patient’s condition became more stable.
The next recovery phase was carried out on the 8th floor of the Siloam Hospital Balikpapan treatment room.
“After 5 days of recovery, on Friday, January 22, 2021, the patient was allowed to go home from the hospital in good condition,” he said.
