This high mountain sandy beach in Sirdal is no longer a well-kept secret

One weekend in September, 19 tents are pitched in a southern paradise in Sirdal. Also, nearly 50 people are on a day trip. Walkers will be counted next summer.

– We see that Rågeloni has become a new hotspot on social media, notes Guro Sødergren.

His job is to manage Setesdal Vesthei, Ryfylkeheiane and Frafjordheiane. A 3,500 square kilometer landscape protection area, which extends into 11 municipalities between Agder and Rogaland and which therefore also hosts a 1,000 meter long sandy beach – 840 meters above sea level.

In the old days, the beach was a well-kept secret. This was where normal walkers could go for a beach of their own.

Sødergren has photos and remembers having been here since she was five. Then she and her father went here and only fished 33 years ago.
