Some of the players reported loss on their accounts and this update promises to put an end to piracy.
To the saga of Grand Theft Auto became a landmark within the entertainment industry. Since its first release in 1997, this series of video games was destined to become a resounding success with titles like GTA Vice City or San Andreas. In the latter, Rockstar has provided its fans with a great experience linked to the slums and risky missions that could land them in prison or death itself.
Thus, these open world features did not go unnoticed by the public who made the most of the gang adventures and near warlike confrontations of the games. And, to this day, fans find themselves waiting for the sixth installment about which we still do not have much information.
Meanwhile, those players who are waiting for what Rockstar confirms for the release date of GTA VIthey can continue having fun with titles of yesteryear… or the Online version of the action game.
Taking into account that GTA Online has its respective popularity, it is logical to think that, as in all the most important titles worldwide, there will be those who will try to sabotage the progress of others. Beyond cheating, these “Griefers” (as they are known within the community) have focused on corrupt PC gamer accounts to get your benefit. Although this is not new, it does involve a security problem that fans have not been slow to notify the company.
Although not long ago the game also included a fast travel system, such as calling a taxi, it is clear to us that the developers do not escape the most requested details of its users.
So recently Rockstar has released an update to GTA Online that will fix remote code execution failure that gave these opportunists free passage to completely corrupt the accounts of a significant number of players.
goodbye to piracy
It’s only been a few days since the patch was released, however, the company has clarified that will be kept up to date through their support portalwhile making sure that the goal of the update is met.
As they have explained in the patch notesthis update will add a new data system for GTA Online remains stable in terms of network sessions and, incidentally, messaging. Likewise, the developers added that an issue that allowed modification of the gameplay experience from third parties at the RP level, currency balance, among others, was also fixed. Unfortunately, the patch has a connection issue from PC for those players who have previously installed a firewall or any additional port blocking measures.
In summary, the mod menu can be hacked by a griefier to use online commands to your advantage. In this way they manage to avoid some microtransactions and, at the same time, other annoying actions, from selective harassment to modifying the location of other players at will.
Firewalls could also be involved in account corruption
On the other hand, to better measure the situation related to PC users, Speyedr, the creator of a popular firewall popular among its community, has made the decision to limit its use. This in order to reduce the possibility that grifiers can use it for these bad practices. In Speyedr’s words:
“The main problem right now is that mods can endlessly spam their targets with exploits, and all it takes is for the victim to close Guardian for the exploit to finally get to it and affect them. That’s mainly why I’ve hidden the builds for now. Any unsuspecting user who tries to use Guardian will not understand the risks they are putting themselves into and will probably fall victim to the exploit anyway because they didn’t configure it or weren’t using it correctly.”
However, Rockstar has implemented these changes which, for the moment, have given more peace of mind to users who have been victims of “pirates”. Everything seems to be going smoothly these days for GTA Online, but it’s only a matter of time before we make sure that not one more account can be corrupted by these bad users.
