You might not have noticed, but WhatsApp launched a new feature earlier this year that went almost unnoticed.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp added a new feature to send messages that automatically self-destruct after a certain amount of time, similar to Snapchat.
How to activate it? Open your app on your smartphone, then go to Settings > Account > Privacy. Then search for “Delay before disappearance” and choose the option you prefer: 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.
A message will appear in the chat confirming that message disappearing has been enabled. You can also enable disappearing messages on specific chats by tapping on a WhatsApp contact’s individual settings.
The system isn’t foolproof, of course: if someone captures or records your chat, there’s no way to delete that content from their phone using an official WhatsApp feature. As always, the best way to keep embarrassing or regrettable content off the internet is to not post it in the first place.
