This Euromillions winner decided to return to work at Lidl: “I didn’t think twice”

In 2019, luck turns for Stephen Schiltz, a 56-year-old man living in Wales, who wins the Euromillions jackpot with his wife, Lesley. A year later, the country is hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Faced with the shortage of HGV drivers, thereby impacting the supply of stores, the government has launched an appeal to all people holding the famous driving license. “I was a truck driver before I won the lottery and had a letter asking me to come back. I didn’t think twice, I was happy to help and it was great to be around. back to work”he explains in the columns of the Mirror.

“A lot of people with truck licenses had the same letter from the government, but few of them had become millionaires through the lottery”, continues Stephen Schiltz. He thus found himself behind the wheel of a Lidl truck again, as he used to do before becoming a millionaire. The man said he was inspired by his wife who also went on to work as a freelance health and social care trainer.

Despite their newfound fortune, the couple remained relatively simple. After celebrating their victory with a trip to the Maldives and swapping their car, a Fiat Multipla for a Range Rover Discovery, Stephen and Lesley decided to keep the money to secure a bright future for their six children and four grandchildren. “We were very lucky, it’s a wonderful feeling to have no money worries anymore”, he explained. The 56-year-old attributes his luck to his daughter Theresa, who died prematurely of a heart attack at the age of 16, whom he considers his “guardian angel”. “If we win again, it would be nice to give it back to the people“, he concluded.
