In an interview, Jenny Elvers talks about her first great love: It was the 80s, the young Jenny was still at school and was 17 or 18 years old. Her boyfriend at the time: Jan Vetter (60). The name sounds insignificant, but his alias is not. It is none other than Farin Urlaub, frontman of the German punk rock band Die Ärzte, who were at the peak of their career at the time. The band’s fame at the time was one reason why no one knew about the relationship for decades. Jenny Elvers wanted to make a name for herself first.

Nevertheless, the actress looks back fondly on her relationship with Farin Urlaub. The two were a couple for four years and even moved into a house together in the Lüneburg Heath. The relationship with the singer, who was almost nine years older than her, was her start into adult life, as the actress now said in the NDR talk show “deep and clear”: “We traveled a lot together. In fact, I also learned a lot from him. He is very well-read, a very clever man.” And much more importantly: “I really loved him very much.”

Jenny Elvers doesn’t say a bad word about her ex, who was apparently the perfect first boyfriend for her. And that despite the fact that Farin Urlaub was at the peak of his career at the time and their lives were completely different. “I went to school, he was at the peak of his career, just separated from the band,” Jenny remembers the time in the 80s when Die Ärzte split up. “He was a millionaire with a lot of time on his hands, I was a student. And all of that wasn’t in Berlin or anything like that, but at my place in the Lüneburg Heath, in Amelinghausen, in my childhood bedroom, with my mom, dad, my little brother and grandma still in the house.”

The way the two met was also very rural: “I actually met him in a very traditional way at a concert. It was a very exciting time.” The two stayed in touch by phone and letters. “We didn’t have cell phones yet, just an orange phone with a very long cord. My father and mother always listened when I made calls.”
