Now they mainly run in the Deventer area, but in 2025 they will run 42 kilometers through the streets of New York. In their podcast ‘What a shit end!’ Robert Lentelink (41) and Nusa Mijboom (38) will take you through the preparations. “It’s a kind of diary. How many people are listening is not important at all.”

Nusa and Robert have been together since 2005. The Deventer couple has been married for more than ten years and they have two kids together. The podcast ‘What a shit end!’ record them at the kitchen table, in their home on the Zwolseweg. Usually in the evening when the children are in bed. Robert tells us how it all started.
Crazy about America
Anyone who knows Nusa and Robert a little will understand why they participate in the marathon in New York. America and running are their great passions. Nusa went to high school in the United States and Robert worked there for a long time. Robert: ”In 2023 we are going to make a big tour through the country with our family. There is a map in our kitchen, where we write and draw things to make it concrete.”
They have also been running for years. Their running shoes are always with you during a holiday or city trip and they have already run several competitions. From the Brink to the Brink and IJsselloop to the quarter marathon in Rotterdam and the Roparun: Nusa and Robert run a lot.
A dream became a concrete goal
The idea of participating in the New York City Marathon had been around for a while. And under the guise of Robert’s life motto ‘the difference between a dream and a goal is a timeline’, they finally took the plunge. They will participate in 2025. Until then, they are making a podcast in which they take listeners along in the preparations. The name ‘What a cunt!’ refers to the distance they will walk. ”Because a marathon is quite a shitty end,” Nusa says in the first episode.

Not finished talking for a long time
They started the podcast in September 2021, and there are already 9 episodes on Spotify. Nusa and Robert decide for themselves when to record. “We don’t make an episode every week. Then it becomes such a must. We only do it if we both feel like it and if there is something to say.” They still have a few years to go, but the couple is not afraid that they will get ‘finished’.
A marathon like this takes a long time, then you may have to go on the road
Robert: ”We still have so much to tell! For example, about our training and the progress we are making. But topics such as nutrition, the right shoes and pooping are also discussed. Such a marathon lasts a few hours, so it is best to avoid having to go on the road. We will discuss how that goes in the podcast.”
Get a starting ticket
Another topic is getting a starting permit. The New York City Marathon is one of the world’s most famous and popular marathons. The ‘normal’ registration is done by drawing lots. If you want to be sure of a spot, you can do that by booking through a travel agency. But then you have to pay a lot of extra euros. “These are all things we still need to dive into,” said Robert.
Your own tune for the podcast
They started with a laptop and now they have a professional set with microphones and a mixer. ”We even have a tune have it made by a friend! We will install it from the next episode.” They don’t really prepare. Nusa only makes a calendar five minutes before they answer.
We never run together
Robert is very clear about the question: whether it will be boring to record a podcast together with your partner. “New! We have a family and when we sit at the table with the kids we really don’t talk about running at length. Because of work and the kids, we almost never run together. I often go alone and Nusa has a regular running girlfriend. Because of this, I hear a lot of new things during the podcast.”
Stubborn
When it comes to their podcast, Robert and Nusa continue to do their own thing. “We were told that it would be best to make a podcast of no more than thirty minutes. Otherwise people would lose interest. But we have so much to tell, that half an hour is really too short! The last two episodes are therefore longer. Almost an hour.”
Listeners from Belgium
The couple doesn’t really care what the listeners think. “We make this podcast because we like it ourselves. We don’t care if people are listening or not. Of course it’s cool when people like it. When strangers follow us on (the running app) Strava, we know they’re coming through the podcast. And Nusa recently found out where the listeners come from: it turned out that even people from Belgium are listening. That’s really cool!”
