SUMMER – A monotonous noise has been keeping tens of Burgumers and Sumarders busy for several days. Several readers got in touch and hundreds of comments were received on a Facebook post. The noise sounds like a fan or vacuum cleaner and continues day and night.
The sound was mainly heard in Winterswijk. This is partly because the wind blows in an easterly direction. The sound could not be heard in Burgum West.
Paper mill
A small study by WâldNet has now made it clear who the culprit is. It concerns the paper mill Essity in Sumar. WâldNet was not the first to call, the company had already received several calls.
Silencer
The company says in a response that the cause is a broken silencer. All authorities have already been informed about the nuisance. The silencer should normally ensure that the noise nuisance is kept to a minimum.
Fixed next week
An Essity employee says that an attempt was made last week to repair the muffler, but that so far has not been successful. The company hopes to succeed next week. A crane may be required as the unit is located on the roof of the factory.
