Gerard Joling says in a conversation with RTL Boulevard that he is very much looking forward to it. “It’s fantastic to see that older people still have the strength to sing.” Where he first joined forces with Gordon, he is now alone. “I think it would be easier for me to do without Gordon, because you have two opinions and you have to discuss them. And now you can immediately say: bam, press!”

The singer will be completely surprised in the coming season. “That is the best thing.”
Of course he hopes for good singing talents, but he does not have a preference for a genre. “I like it from hard rock to heavy metal or folk and Dutch. You have to do what you are good at and then we are there to see if it is good enough. And whether it is fun and original.”

Gerard Joling himself tapped the 60 this year and has a lot of respect for the elderly who participate The Voice Senior. “You grant it to people that way, because it is incredibly brave that you still do it at that age. Sometimes you also see that people have been standing up for years, but that it never worked out. They are a bit freer. And there are also people who sing alone at home and for the fun and they suddenly stand in front of a full house. The nervousness makes it difficult, but we also see through that. “

The other coaches of The Voice Senior are Frans Bauer, Angela Groothuizen and Ilse DeLange. Why should the candidates choose Gerard as a coach? “Of course I sold most of the records,” he jokes. “That does not say everything, of course, but I also have a ditch experience. I have done many different things in the musical field.”
The Voice Senior starts August 28.
