What needs to be tamed differently, says the four-time world champion, the German has not yet fully recognized the new Aston Martin, but he says other teams are in the same shoes.
Sebastian Vettel has spent two and a half days driving the AMR22 twice in the Formula 1 test in Barcelona, on Thursday he grabbed the sixth position on the results list with a good second loss. The German rider admitted that he had not yet fully understood Aston Martin’s racing car built according to the new rules in 2022, but according to him, this is also the case with other formations:
“To be completely honest, we still have a lot to understand,” the four-time world champion is quoted by Motorsport.com. “It’s a completely different species of animal and needs to be tamed in a different way. By this I mean driving the car, but also how to set it up. We tried a few things. There are some challenges that others face, as well as problems. So yes, we have to find solutions. ”
“I still have a lot to learn about the car that wants me to drive differently, so I also play a bit with the driving styles to see what I can do. We play with the car at the same time and try to solve our problems, so there is still a lot to do. Everyone is working full steam ahead and we still have to climb a very steep hill. I can’t yet say we’ll see the peak, but I think it’s a challenge and we believe we can reach the peak before the start of the season. It will definitely be a long season and probably everyone will be rowing in the same boat with getting to know the cars and some trouble. But for now, everything is good. ”
Vettel also spoke in more detail about the changes: “What you see is different because the wheels are bigger and there is a small element on top of them. We get used to these pretty quickly, but like I said, the leadership is different and I still have to play with it. Obviously not all circles are the same. ”
“All in all, we’re fine, but I don’t know where we stand. Ultimately, I trust we got closer to each other, that’s the point. We were very far away sometimes, which isn’t so enjoyable if you’re not in the fight. So I hope we can be better there this year and take advantage of that. We don’t have reliability issues, we’re not really struggling with anything right now. It’s more about getting to know the car, its behavior and some of the challenges, ”said the German, partly for the new F1 hit. also referring to dolphinwhich also tortures the Aston Martin, causing some damage to its floorboard during the day.
