(National Unity – Mass Struggle – Published May 23, 2021) By censoring for unconstitutionality the immersive teaching carried out by the Molac bill in favor of regional languages, the Constitutional Council persists and signs in the unfailing ideological hostility of a French state that has built its political efficiency on a multitude of linguicides regional since the nineteenth century and even earlier, when Father Gregory perfected the “patois” under the Revolution.
This is article 2 of the Constitution of the Fifth Republic and its famous “the language of the Republic is French” accompanied by “individuals may not avail themselves, in their relations with administrations and public services, of a right to use a language other than French. Which, by its very existence, allows this aspect of the law to be challenged. We are therefore witnessing the triumphant return of a French glottophobia that has never been denied, the uninhibited expression of fundamentalist and radical monolingualism.
But this ideological state of affairs has very concrete consequences on the ground as it very directly threatens the existing immersive education systems in Brittany in the Basque Country via Alsace and many other territories. With us, too, it is the mortgage on the immersion option embodied by the associu Scola corsa when two schools of this type were to be born in the fall of 2021 in Biguglia and Bastia. Beyond that, the mortgage on a whole stretch of development of a bi-plurilingual society building strategy is collapsing. The unraveling of decades of bilingualism can begin.
It is therefore indeed an alternative bi-plurilingual cultural model that the State purely and simply wants to eradicate.
To this secular glottophobia is added, let us not doubt it, in a world of all profit where more than half of the six thousand languages spoken is threatened with disappearance, where a language dies every fourteen days, the capitalist desire for commodification globalization of the world which eradicates linguistic diversity in the name of a pragmatism of communicators and merchants.
France as a macronist of CAC 40 sharks and its Corsican white-collar satellites reduce language to its performative function as a tool in the service of rapid and predatory enrichment. It is not surprising that these predators applaud with both hands in the face of such a position with serious consequences on the ground.
This decision therefore satisfies the camp of glottophobes united from Mélenchon to Macron.
For A Manca, this attempt at linguistic eradication represents an additional step towards the programmed disappearance of the Corsican people.
