Cyber security expert and founder of Ethical Hacker Indonesia, Teguh Aprianto, explained that there are several ATM machines that are at risk of being exploited by bad people.
Teguh explained that the ATM machine was attached to a device that could record customer card data. This tool is usually in the mouth where you insert the card.
At the top of the ATM button cover, a camera is placed to capture the customer’s ATM PIN.
“Get used to every time you want to make a transaction at any ATM, touch the top of the button cover before entering the ATM PIN,” Teguh said in a tweet on Twitter.
Meanwhile, ATM machines in quiet locations are usually easy targets for criminals, such as at public gas stations (SPBU).
“So, when making transactions using cards in these places, you should be careful,” he reminded.
For that, he prefers transactions that are cardless alias without using a card. In addition, separate the main account and the account used for transactions.
He said that the victims of skimming could come from customers of any bank.
For information, skimming is a criminal act of stealing ATM user data to break into accounts. To carry out this action, criminals use a special tool called scammer which looks like the mouth of an ATM card slot.
Once the card is inserted scammerthen the machine will automatically record the information from the victim’s card.
