This app also brings the Dynamic Island to your iPhone

Do you also want to try the Dynamic Island? A iPhone 14 Pro (Max) buying is one (rather expensive) option, but there is now also an app that mimics the function. Simply, on your current iPhone. Although we still have some comments on this Dynamic Island app.

iPhone 14 Pro (Max)

Last October, Apple introduced us to it Dynamic Island: a pill-shaped bar at the top of your screen iPhone. The selfie camera and Face ID sensors of your device are hidden in this – which used to be in the notch of the screen, or in other words in the ‘notch’. But why is such a bar called a ‘dynamic island’?

The iPhone 14 now up to €414 discount!

Well, this bar is fully interactive. For example, the Dynamic Island shows all kinds of information, such as the direction in which to walk and which media is currently playing. Very handy, but there is one drawback: the Dynamic Island is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). All Apple users with another iPhone have yet to look at their old-fashioned notch.

A new Dynamic Island app changes that. DynamicCow — as the app is called — almost exactly mimics the feature on the iPhone it’s installed on. The Dynamic Island is then right below the notch, in the same place as on the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). As a result, it seems as if the well-known notch has been extended, but is suddenly partly usable.

Unfortunately, DynamicCow is not perfect, which you will notice when downloading and installing the app. For example, you must first install the Alt Server software on your Mac and then use it to install the Mail Plugin utility on your iPhone. Once you’ve done that, you can finally put DynamicCow on your iPhone. So it is not a matter of going to the App Store.

But that’s not even all: the app only has support for iOS 16 up to and including iOS 16.1.2. The new iOS 16.2 is not (yet) even compatible. Have you already installed the update or can your iPhone go no further than iOS 15So you’re out of luck for now.

Result?

Once you finally get going, the app is… disappointing. The notch that almost every iPhone has covers part of the Dynamic Island. As a result, the function is still not fully usable and some information is not even easy to read.

And let’s be honest: the combination of notch and a Dynamic Island is simply too much. Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro (Max), a larger part of your screen is covered, so that the island is in the way. To make matters worse comes the screen of the iPhone 11 even a permanent red bar.

But worst of all, we are quite skeptical about the security of the app. In order to install the tool, you also need to enter your Apple ID credentials. The alarm bells immediately start ringing for us. We can therefore not call the app recommended – it is certainly interesting.
