This Amazon documentary takes a look behind the scenes of Paris Saint-Germain

Anyone who thought that because of the effects of the corona pandemic would show the humility much-quoted by Aki Watzke and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would return to Europe’s football clubs, was seriously mistaken. Chelsea brought their prodigal son Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge for 115 million euros, and Manchester City made Jack Grealish the record-breaking Englishman with 117.5 million euros. Despite these mega-transfers, it worried Paris Saint Germain for the biggest sensation of the transfer summer: the signing of Lionel Messi.

With the entry of Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, a flow of money opened up for Paris Saint-Germain that seems to be almost inexhaustible. Under the aegis of the Qatari businessman and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Parisians piloted some world-class players to France for astronomical salaries and transfer fees. In 2017 PSG let the Brazilian Neymar jump € 222 million, a year later PSG transferred € 180 million to Monaco and signed Kylian Mbappé after a one-year loan.

In keeping with the association’s 50th anniversary, the four-part production also looks back on the history of Paris Saint-Germain since the association was founded in 1970. Former players, employees and former coaches take streaming fans inside the club and talk about their experiences.
