Actor Timothy Dalton played the role of James Bond in the movies twice The Living Daylights from 1987 and Licence to Kill from 1989. Now it turns out that the Welshman really wasn’t supposed to play the part at all.Debbie McWilliams, Casting Director on more than ten Bond films, helped find the Bond actors after the late’s departure Roger Moore with the movie A View to a Kill from 1985. She told Entertainment Weekly that Pierce Brosnan had already been found to take over the role.
Brosnan already ‘earmarked’ as the new 007
Diary problems threw a spanner in the works. Brosnan was successful with the TV series during that period Remington Steele and he could not accept the role of 007 as a result. As a result, Dalton was attracted.
“He was already pretty much earmarked as the next one [Bond], but when we wanted to go ahead, the Mary Tyler Moore company already had him under an option for Remington Steele,” said McWilliams.
She also indicated that the company only indicated that Brosnan was not available a day before the option expired. At breakneck speed, Dalton was found for the 007 role to start production of The Living Daylights to start on time.
Brosnan eventually became James Bond after all
Brosnan did eventually come to the Bond franchise and he played the world’s most famous secret agent four times, with GoldenEye from 1995 as the first film. In 2002 Brosnan parted ways with Die Another Day after which the role after Daniel Craig went.
