Thirty-something from Eindhoven drowns in Lommel swimming pool

A 31-year-old man from Eindhoven, Netherlands, drowned in the Lommel swimming pool on Friday evening. An investigation into the precise circumstances of the drowning is underway.

At that time, the swimming pool was rented by the Al-Furqan mosque in Lommel, an association founded by five residents of Lommel with Moroccan roots. The non-profit organization organizes a swimming evening for men and children twice a month on Friday evenings. The swimming pool is then not publicly accessible.

The emergency services, including divers from the North Limburg fire zone and a MUG team, were called to the swimming pool of the Soeverein in Lommel on Friday evening around 9.45 pm. The swimmer was removed from the water, after which rescuers and emergency services started resuscitation, but ultimately the man did not survive.

The police were busy mapping the accident until after midnight. The Limburg public prosecutor’s office was informed. “However, there is no question of a suspicious death,” said Bob Nijs, the mayor of Lommel, on the VRT radio news.
