At least thirteen Palestinians were killed and fifteen others wounded in the early hours of today in shelling by the Israeli armed forces against a school that had been turned into a reception center for displaced persons and against an apartment building in sectors of the Gaza Strip, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
At least eight people were killed when IDP tents were hit in the grounds of Halima al-Sadiyya school in Jabalia (north).
On the other hand, Israel’s military said that the Air Force conducted a “precision strike against terrorists operating” inside the school, taking “measures to reduce the risk of harm to civilians”, in particular with the “use of precision munitions, surveillance by air and the collection of additional information’.
“Hamas terrorists were using the command and control center to plan and carry out terrorist attacks” against troops and “the State of Israel,” he insisted.
In the central Gaza Strip, at least five Palestinians were killed when shelling hit an apartment building in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
The bombings came as the Israel-Hamas war in the besieged enclave enters its twelfth month.
The raid by Hamas’ military arm into southern Israeli territory on October 7, triggering the war, left 1,205 people dead on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to a count based on official data. Of the 251 people abducted that day, 97 remain hostages of the Palestinian movement militants, however 33 of them have been declared dead by the Israeli army.
Israel’s wide-scale retaliatory operations — which have caused humanitarian and health devastation in the small besieged coastal enclave, where almost the entire population of 2.4 million people have been displaced — have so far claimed the lives of at least 40,878 people, according to the latest report by the Hamas Health Ministry. According to the UN, most of the victims were women and children.
