Washington. After storming the US Capitol last week, tests for the corona virus were positive for at least three MPs. Most of the MPs had been taken to safe rooms during the attack, where they sat close together for hours. “Several Republican MPs in the room have consistently refused to wear a mask,” wrote Democrat Brad Schneider on Twitter on Tuesday when he announced his infection. He is angry about their self-centered and arrogant attitude.
On Monday, the MPs Bonnie Watson Coleman and Pramila Jayapal had already declared that a corona test had turned out positive for them. Several Republicans not only refused to wear a mask, but also made fun of “colleagues and employees who offered them one,” said Jayapal. The medical service in Congress had asked MPs to be tested because they could have come into contact with infected colleagues in the safe rooms.
MP Schneider demanded that parliamentarians who did not adhere to health regulations and did not wear a mask should be escorted out of Congress by the security forces because of the “reckless endangerment of their colleagues”. “Wearing a mask is not a political statement,” he said.
