That too
The election for the most marginal city in Flanders is being held on Facebook for the sixth year in a row. But due to election fraud, organizer Imperial Flanders has to organize the round between Ninove and multiple “winner” Menen for the third time.
What is the most marginal city, or margistad for short, in Flanders? That is the question that Facebook page Imperial Flanders is asking for the sixth year in a row. But this edition is not going as hoped. During the voting round between Ninove and five-time “winner” Menen, in the semi-final, it turned out that the residents bought likes, or votes.
“Overnight, 1,000 votes were suddenly added for Ninove and later another 800 for Menen, all from Asian profiles. Those votes were almost certainly fake,” says the organizer of the election, who calls himself Karel Keizer. “Because the same phenomenon happened again in the second version of the round, the competition will now take place in a private group, so that only people who are members can vote. But that of course reduces the reach.”
“Marginal” Meen
Menen has already received the title five times before, but the city council would prefer to lose that name. “I understand that it is not nice for them that they may now be crowned the most marginal city for the sixth time,” says the organizer, “but a large part of the people who vote for Menen are residents of the city itself. I think that the city’s disappointed reaction has also done more bad than good, because I see that a number of people who first voted for Ninove are now suddenly voting for Menen.”
