Third suspected case of monkeypox reported in San Diego

The individual is currently in isolation and, although symptomatic, the patient is doing well and is not hospitalized.

(NOTICIAS YA).-The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency has identified an additional probable case of hMPXV, also known as monkeypox, bringing the total number of probable cases in the San Diego region to three.

All probable cases must be verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and that process can take several days. The two previous probable cases reported by the County on Wednesday have not yet been verified by the CDC.

County health officials say this most recent case has no connection or relationship to the first two probable cases, but like the other two, the individual also recently traveled internationally.

The individual is currently in isolation and, although symptomatic, the patient is doing well and is not hospitalized.

The first two patients are also symptomatic, but are doing well and did not require hospitalization. Something else they have in common is that they just got back from an international trip.

“The three people with probable hMPXV cases here in the region are doing well and are managing their symptoms in home isolation,” said Wilma J. Wooten, MD, MPH, county public health officer. “Most people who become infected experience mild to moderate symptoms and the risk of contracting the virus remains very low for the general population.”
