Third of controlled taxi drivers Amsterdam under the influence

In Amsterdam, six taxi drivers were arrested last night for drunk driving. That is one third of the total of eighteen drivers who were checked with a saliva test for THC and amphetamine, among other things.

The drivers were arrested during a scheduled check on alcohol and drugs. “These drivers were chosen at random,” said a police spokesman.

The police have noticed that the number of taxi drivers driving under the influence is increasing in Amsterdam. “During a check in February, one in eight inspected drivers had a positive test result, now one in three. That is very significant, especially since they are professional drivers,” said the spokesman.

“This confirms that these controls are useful and necessary and that we will continue to monitor them in the future.”

The detainees were later also taken blood for further investigation, reports AT5. The police could not say whether there are more serious consequences for them because they are professional drivers. “That decides the OM.”
