On Wednesday evening there were around 220 missions in the Deggendorf district. “The damage runs into the millions,” said District Fire Councilor Alois Schraufstetter. The focus was on Künzing, Wallerdorf and parts of Iggensbach and Schöllnach. As a result of the heavy rain, masses of water from an overflow basin in Künzing (Deggendorf district) flooded the cellars of several houses in an adjacent settlement. Also in the Deggendorf district, in Kopfsberg, a number of houses were under water. Two hotel restaurants in the municipality of Iggensbach were surrounded by the mass of water from the Ohe, who was actually running peacefully. The water ran knee-high across the street, and oil and gas tanks threatened to float. The fire brigade and water rescue team secured the tanks, and the owners tried to protect their buildings with sandbags.

In the municipality of Ausernzell, too, the fire brigades were challenged to pump out full cellars. Quite a few streets were flooded, and in some places real lakes formed on the carriageway. In Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg (Straubing-Bogen district), the public viewing had to be stopped prematurely due to heavy rain. Fortunately, several reports of lightning strikes in houses in the Freyung-Grafenau area and in a church in the Rottal were not confirmed, according to the Lower Bavaria police headquarters.

Opened outdoor pool already closed again

In Freyung, the storm ensured that the outdoor pool, which had not even been open for two weeks, was temporarily closed again. The heavy rain on Wednesday lifted a manhole cover and the wastewater ran into the swimmer’s pool, whose water now has to be completely drained. That takes two weeks, during which the outdoor pool is closed.

In the greater Eggenfelden area (Rottal-Inn district), heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain or hail flooded the streets and cellars. The Integrated Control Center (ILS) Passau reported 84 missions for the Rottal-Inn district. According to ILS, the focus was on around 30 missions in Hebertsfelden, as the local fire brigade commander Michael Fuchs confirmed to the local newspaper.

Around 30 trees fell on the main road in Bayerisch Gmain

The wind hit a swath in the forest on Wednesday evening on Hallthurmer Berg. About 20 to 30 trees fell and blocked the main road in Bayerisch Gmainer (Berchtesgadener Land district) area. Shortly before 10 p.m. the volunteer fire brigade moved out: “The road looked like a forest floor,” reported commander Thomas Hörl of the local newspaper. He worked with 28 colleagues and four cars from Bayerisch Gmainer Wehr until one o’clock at night to clear the lane.

Countless full cellars, flooded streets covered with thick hailstones, fallen trees and destroyed fields were left behind by the storm on Tuesday shortly after 5 p.m. in the Mühldorf district.
